Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Secure Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening trophy on fourteen separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown between the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the net early on.

Yet, Marseille fired twice in the closing moments to take a shock advantage. Initially, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital leveler in the final moments to send the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving crucial kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored successfully for PSG to seal a convincing penalty victory.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the past thirteen seasons.
