Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Table

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, fiends, and dark forces increasing in strength within the city.

Note: Key plot points for Episode 3 of this adventure follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.

This warrior group consists of Teor (played by the voice actor), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

As described by the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might seem unsuited, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a intense initial meeting with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to auction.

The traitor then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each character has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous place.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having defied his relatives’ demands to execute the target and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the group reach places they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This means them little choice but to head to the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.

Future Episodes

Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we discover that the warrior group won’t be around next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to round up the Seekers and Planners tables.

Viewers can look forward to learning which adventurers will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
